FAQ

I don't know how to create the organizational virtual data center network in "Managed v Platform Powered by VMware - vCloud Director Tenant Portal"

(:Last updated)

- In JP4 region only

The organizational virtual data center network is the logical switch (Layer 2 network) functioning in the organizational virtual data center provided as the menu of "Managed v Platform Powered by VMware".
You can connect the organizational virtual data center network to the interface of the edge (edge service gateway / distributed logical router) or the NIC of Virtual Machine(s).
You can create a network like the following diagram by using the organizational virtual data center network.

How to create the network
Creation of the organizational virtual data center network

  • Network
    • Network
    • Add

  • New Organization VDC Network
    • 1 Network Type

  • Isolated Network
    • When you select this network, you are to create the organizational virtual data center network which you can not connect to the other organizational virtual data center network nor External Network, via the Edge (Edge Service Gateway / distributed logical router). (Network Diagram 1)
  • Specified Route
    • When you select this network, you are to create the organizational virtual data center network which you can connect to the other organizational virtual data center network or External Network, via the edge (Edge Service Gateway / distributed logical router). (Network Diagram 2,3)

Network Type : Isolated

  • New Organization VDC Network
    • 2 General

  • Name
  • Gateway CIDR
    • You need to input the IP address which you assign to the interface of the Edge Service Gateway in which only DHCP service is enabled.
    • When you connect the NIC of Virtual Machine to the organizational virtual data center network, if you select IP mode : Static - IP Pool or Static - Manual, the guest OS running on the Virtual Machine configures this value as the default gateway IP address, in the process of the first boot after the NIC of the Virtual Machine was connected to the organizational virtual data center network.
    • When you connect the NIC of Virtual Machine to the organizational virtual data center network, if you select IP mode as DHCP and DHCP is enabled in the guest OS running on the Virtual Machine, the guest OS gets an IP address from the Edge Gateway Service in which only DHCP service is enabled and the guest OS configures the IP address as the IP address of the default gateway.
  • Shared Network
    • When you enabled Shared Network, you can use the organizational virtual data center network in the other virtual data center in the same organization and you can connect the NIC of the Virtual Machine accommodated in the other virtual data center in the same organization to this organizational virtual data center network.

3 Static IP pool

  • Static IP pool
    • You need to input the IP addrss as range.
    • When you connect the NIC of Virtual Machine to the organizational virtual data center network, if you select IP mode : Static - IP Pool, the IP address is to be assigned to the NIC from this static IP pool.
      • The guest OS running on the Virtual Machine configures the IP address as the static IP address in the process of the first boot after the NIC of the Virtual Machine was connected to the organizational virtual data center network.
        • The IP address(es) not set as the static IP pool is assigned automatically as the IP of the DHCP pool.
          • When you connect the NIC of Virtual Machine to the organizational virtual data center network, if you select IP mode as DHCP and DHCP is enabled in the guest OS running on the Virtual Machine, the guest OS gets an IP address from the Edge Gateway Service in which only DHCP service is enabled and the guest OS configures the IP address to the NIC.

4 DNS

  • Primary DNS
    • You need to input the IP address of the primary DNS server.
    • When you power on the Virtual Machine as the first time after you connected the NIC of the Virtual Machine to the organizational virtual data center network or when you power on the Virtual Machine and apply the re-customization, the guest OS running on the Virtual Machine statically configures this value as the IP address of the primary DNS server.
    • When you connect the NIC of Virtual Machine to the organizational virtual data center network, if you select IP mode as DHCP and DHCP is enabled in the guest OS running on the Virtual Machine, the guest OS gets an IP address from the Edge Gateway Service in which only DHCP service is enabled and the guest OS configures the IP address as the primary DNS IP address.
      • If you update (or edit) the IP address of the primary DNS server of the organizational virtual data center network, and after that, if the guest OS running on the Virtual Machine, which is connected to this organizational virtual data center network, gets an IP address of the primary DNS server again from the Edge Gateway Service in which only DHCP service is enabled, the guest OS can not get the updated (edited) IP address of the primary DNS server. If the guest OS gets the updated (edited) IP address of the primary DNS server, you need to shutdown the guest OS connected to the organizational virtual data center network and power off the Virtual Machine and power it on and apply the re-customization. You need to conduct these operations in order.
  • Secondary DNS
    • You need to input the IP address of the secondary DNS server.
    • When you power on the Virtual Machine as the first time after you connected the NIC of the Virtual Machine to the organizational virtual data center network or when you power on the Virtual Machine and apply the re-customization, the guest OS running on the Virtual Machine statically configures this value as the IP address of the secondary DNS server.
    • When you connect the NIC of Virtual Machine to the organizational virtual data center network, if you select IP mode as DHCP and DHCP is enabled in the guest OS running on the Virtual Machine, the guest OS gets an IP address from the Edge Gateway Service in which only DHCP service is enabled and the guest OS configures the IP address as the secondary DNS IP address.
      • If you update (or edit) the IP address of the secondary DNS server of the organizational virtual data center network, and after that, if the guest OS running on the Virtual Machine, which is connected to this organizational virtual data center network, gets an IP address of the secondary DNS server again from the Edge Gateway Service in which only DHCP service is enabled, the guest OS can not get the updated (edited) IP address of the secondary DNS server. If the guest OS gets the updated (edited) IP address of the secondary DNS server, you need to shutdown the guest OS connected to the organizational virtual data center network and power off the Virtual Machine and power it on and apply the re-customization. You need to conduct these operations in order.
  • DNS suffix
    • You need to input the DNS suffix of the domain name.
    • When you power on the Virtual Machine as the first time after you connected the NIC of the Virtual Machine to the organizational virtual data center network or when you power on the Virtual Machine and apply the re-customization, the guest OS running on the Virtual Machine statically configures this value as the DNS suffix of the domain name.
    • When you connect the NIC of Virtual Machine to the organizational virtual data center network, if you select IP mode as DHCP and DHCP is enabled in the guest OS running on the Virtual Machine, the guest OS gets the domain name from the Edge Gateway Service in which only DHCP service is enabled and the guest OS configures the DNS suffix of the domain name.
      • If you update (or edit) the DNS suffix of the domain name of the organizational virtual data center network, and after that, if the guest OS running on the Virtual Machine, which is connected to this organizational virtual data center network, gets the DNS suffix of the domain name again from the Edge Gateway Service in which only DHCP service is enabled, the guest OS can not get the updated (edited) DNS suffix of the domain name. If the guest OS gets the updated (edited) DNS suffix of the domain name, you need to shutdown the guest OS connected to the organizational virtual data center network and power off the Virtual Machine and power it on and apply the re-customization. You need to conduct these operations in order.

    • If you need to use the following function, please don't input anything as primary DNS.
      • The guest OS running on the Virtual Machine, which is connected to this organizational virtual data center network, needs to get the IP address of the primary DNS server from the Edge (Edge Service Gateway / distributed logical router) connected to this organizational virtual data center network.
