• I was assigned a hostname that starts with "jvx" when I newly made a Virtual Machine in the Customer Portal screen. Can I change this hostname?Compute Resource

  Changing the hostname of the Virtual Machine in guest OS is possible, however, it will be returned back to the original hostname when executing Guest Customization.
  This will possibly influence the applications you installed; therefore it is recommended that you do not change the hostname.
  You can still change the name of the Virtual Machine in the Customer Portal.

• What is the difference between Power Off button and Shutdown button in the Virtual Machine management screen?Compute Resource
  1. Shutdown button: For shutting down guest OS on Virtual Machine. Power state will change to Partially Powered Off state.
  2. PowerOff button: For shutting down Virtual Machine.

  Note: This button will forcefully shut down Virtual Machine. Therefore please use this function after shutting down guest OS.

  Note: In case of changing Virtual Machine configuration (ID, description, # of vCPUs, Memory capacity, name of disk, disk capacity), please make sure that the Virtual Machine is powered off.

• Why can I not upload my OVA file?Compute Resource

• Why does my console connection to my Virtual Machine fail when using Firefox 30?Compute Resource

  As of Firefox 30, there has been a change made to the Firefox specification which results in the enabling of the white-list feature.
  Therefore, in the event that you're using Firefox 30 we insist that you follow the steps below to get things working.

  1. Choose "Tools" from Firefox browser toolbar, and choose "Add-ons".
  2. Choose "Always enable" from the pull-down for "VMware Remote Console Plug-in".
  3. Restart your browser.

• Why does my Virtual Machine created from a registered Private Catalog Template not function properly?Compute Resource

  Whenever registering a Template to the Private Catalog, the Virtual Machine which is used to make the Template must have VMware Tools installed on it.
  In case you made the Template of a Virtual Machine without VMware Tools installed, please install them and recreate the Template.

  Note: A Virtual Machine may not able to be created or monitored properly if VMware Tools is not installed.

• I changed the configuration for Virtual Machine while it was in a state of Partially Powered Off, and why can I not access from my guest OS?Compute Resource

  When you press the Shutdown button on Customer Portal (or shutting down via guest OS), the power state of the Virtual Machine shifts to Partially PoweredOff state.
  Changing the configuration of Virtual Machine (name, description, # of vCPU, Memory capacity, disk name, disk capacity) makes it unable to communicate after changing the Virtual Machine to PoweredOn state (Partially PoweredOff state).

  How to recover:

  When this occurs, you can recover communication by trying the procedures below.

  1. Shutdown guest OS, or press Shutdown Virtual Machine button in Customer Portal (when in PoweredOn state, start from procedure 2).
  2. Press Power Off Virtual Machine button in Customer Portal.
  3. Press Power On Virtual Machine button in Customer Portal.

  How to avoid:

  This phenomenon can be avoided by the procedures below.
  When changing configuration for Virtual Machine, please make sure that the Virtual Machine is in PoweredOff state.

  1. Shutdown guest OS, or press Shutdown Virtual Machine button in Customer Portal (when in PoweredOn state, start from procedure 2).
  2. Press Power Off Virtual Machine button in Customer Portal.
  3. Changing configurations for Virtual Machine (name, description, # of vCPU, Memory, disk name, disk capacity).
  4. Press Power On Virtual Machine in Customer Portal.

  Please first delete all Virtual Machines in the Compute Resource Pool before trying to delete the Compute Resource Pool.
