10.2.6.1. Monitoring-setting with the SNMP Function

Operation Confirmed Version:
 Brocade 5600vRouter Version4.2R1S1
This section describes the operation management setting with the SNMP function.
Using the SNMP function allows to acquire information such as MIB from an SNMP agent
and detect various events and failures on the machine, followed by transmission of SNMP traps.

Setting multiple community values

Using, for example, snmpwalk from the SNMP manager allows to acquire SNMP agent information.
For the acquisition, community values need to be set.
The method for setting community values is described here.

Presumed case for sample setting

  • To acquire information with snmpwalk, from SNMP manager “192.168.2.6”

  • To set community values to be used, as test and test2

Configuration diagram
snmp1

Command to be entered with CLI

set service snmp community 'test'
set service snmp community 'test2'
The configuration after completion of appropriate settings is as follows.
service {
        snmp {
                community test
                community test2
        }
}

Operation check result

The verification result log below allows to recognize that SNMP agent information was acquired with the snmpwalk command after settings of communities test and test2 on SNMP manager “192.168.2.6”.

SNMP Trapの送信先設定

Using the SNMP trap function allows to send traps to the SNMP manager.

Presumed case for sample setting

  • Setting SNMP manager “192.168.2.6” as the transmission destination.

Command to be entered with CLI

set service snmp trap-target '192.168.2.6'
The configuration after completion of appropriate settings is as follows.
service {
        snmp {
                community test
                trap-target 192.168.2.6
        }
}

Setting the source interface of SNMP traps

For transmission of SNMP traps, a source interface can be set.
Management and control with the SNMP manager and networks which are passed are eased.

Presumed case for sample setting

  • To set the source IP address to “192.168.2.50”, for transmission of SNMP traps to the SNMP manager “192.168.2.6”

snmp1

Command to be entered with CLI

set service snmp trap-source '192.168.2.50'
The configuration after completion of appropriate settings is as follows.
service {
        snmp {
                community test
                trap-source 192.168.2.50
                trap-target 192.168.2.6
        }
}

Note

For the source, the IP address which has been set to the interface is to be written. An interface name cannot be set directly.

Operation check result

The verification result log below allows to recognize that the SNMP trap to SNMP manager “192.168.2.6” used source “192.168.2.50” and that transmission of the SNMP trap succeeded following selection of the source interface.
