18.7. (Reference information) License key type according to usage

18.7.1. License key type according to usage

This section describes how to select the license type on the “Select license” screen.
※ The content you fill in on this screen is as follows.
No. Item Content of entry
License Plan Please select your plan to use from the pull-down list.
Usage Type
Please select from the pull-down list the usage type of your plan selected by (1).
  • Virtual server: Please select when using “virtual server”.
  • Bare Metal (Physical) Server: Select this when using a bare metal (physical) server as a standalone OS.
  • Hypervisor Base: Select this when using a bare metal (physical) server with a hypervisor.
Agent OS
You can select from the pull-down list only when “virtual server” is selected in item (1).
  • Windows: Please select if your virtual server OS is Windows OS.
  • Linux: Please select if your virtual server OS is Linux OS.
Windows-based OS
It means the number of Windows OS of the selected license plan. If you use Arcserve license on the Hypervisor Platform, please sum up the quantity of Windows-based VM.
※ If you select “Hypervisor base”, it will be “1” on Windows fixed.
Linux-based OS
It means the number of Linux OS of the selected license plan. If you use Arcserve license on the Hypervisor Platform, please sum up the quantity of Linux-based VM.
* If you choose other than “hypervisor base”, it becomes “1” on Linux fixed.
“-“ Please select if you would like to reduce “license type” to select.
“+”
Please select if you would like to increase “License type” to select.
※ Please select this if you would like to order multiple licenses at the same time.

18.7.1.1. How to select contents by the License Type

You can select the contents of Usage Type, Agent OS, Windows-based OS, and Linux-based OS by the license Type. Please refer to the table as follows.

License Type Usage Type Agent OS Windows-based OS Linux-based OS
“for Virtual Server” No choice is required. Select “Windows” or “Linux”. When you select “Windows”, “1” will be fixed in this column. When you select “Linux”, “1” will be fixed in this column.
“for Bare Metal Server 1 Socket, Dedicated Hypervisor 1 Socket”
or
“for Bare Metal Server 2 Socket, Dedicated Hypervisor 2 Socket”
“Bare Metal Server” Select “Windows” or “Linux”. When you select “Windows”, “1” will be fixed in this column. When you select “Linux”, “1” will be fixed in this column.
“Hypervisor Platform” No choice is required. Please fill in the quantity of Windows-based VM. *1 Please fill in the quantity of Linux-based VM. *1

Note

*1 Please note that the host OS (Windows server etc.) is not counted as the number of servers when using Hyper-V, etc. as the hypervisor platform.
We will explain how to select item with the following pattern.

- When using “for Virtual Server”
- When using “for Bare Metal Server / Dedicated Hypervisor”
- For Bare Metal Server
- For Hypervisor Platform

18.7.1.2. When using “for Virtual Server”

Select “for Virtual Server” at “License Type”.

At “Usage Type”, no choice is required. Next, select item at “Agent OS”.

When “Windows” is selected, quantity 1 is fixed in “Windows-based OS” as follows. (Quantity cannot be changed.)

When “Linux” is selected, quantity 1 is fixed in “Linux-based OS” as follows. (Quantity cannot be changed.)

18.7.1.3. When using “for Bare Metal Server, Dedicated Hypervisor”

When using a bare metal or dedicated hypervisor, you can order socket license which is counted by the number of physical socket on your server. The order method differs depending on whether “Usage Type” is “Bare Metal Server” or “Hypervisor Platform”

For bare metal (physical) server

Select “for Bare Metal Server 1 Socket, Private Hypervisor 1 Socket” at “License Type”.

At “Usage Type”, select “Bare metal (physical) server”.

Note

If the number of physical sockets on your server is 1, please select “1 Socket” from “License Type”.
If the number of physical sockets on your server is 2, please select “2 Socket” from “License Type”.
If the number of physical sockets on your server is more than 3, please combine order of “1 Socket” and order of “2 Socket”.
If you are not sure about the number of physical socket, please select “for Virtual Server” license.

For hypervisor platform

Select “for Bare Metal Server 1 Socket, Private Hypervisor 1 Socket” at “License Type”. At “Usage Type”, select “Hypervisor Platform”.
At “Agent OS”, no choice is required. Next, fill in quantity of OS at “Windows-based OS” and “Linux-based OS”.

Note

Unlike “Virtual Server” or “Bare Metal (Physical) Server”, you need to fill in the quantity of OS at “Windows-based OS” and “Linux-based OS” when using “hypervisor platform”.
If you cannot order, please ask via ticket system.
If you are not sure about the number of physical socket, please select “for Virtual Server” license.

18.7.1.4. Add license type

If you would like to order multiple license at the same time, please click the “+” button and select the license type.

The following example is adding “for Virtual Server” which “Agent OS” is “Linux”.

Note

If “License Type” is “for Virtual Server” or “Usage type” is “Bare Metal (Physical) Server”, you can only 1 license per line.
If you would like to order multiple license of same license type, please click “+”, which is mentioned above, and order license one by one.

18.7.2. About the license key

18.7.2.1. About the type of license key

We will issue license key after your application is completed. One type license key or multiple types of license keys will be issued according to the license type you applied for license key. Please confirm the item of “Detailed screen”.

License Key Contents
Server key This license key is for the virtual server. If the usage is hypervisor based, we will issue for the number of OS used (total of Windows / Linux).
Linux key For Ver6.5, and for all license types which use Linux Agent OS, we will issue as many as necessary.
Socket key This license key is for a bare metal server or a dedicated hypervisor. It will be issued for the number of physical sockets (2 sockets for 2 sockets).

18.7.2.2. Relationship between license key and license type

We will issue the following license key.

License Key Usage Type Agent OS Server key Linux key Socket key
V6 for Virtual Server   Windows - -
    Linux - -
V6 for Bare Metal/Dedicated Hypervisor
(Same for both “1 Socket” and “2 Socket”)
Bare metal (physical) server Windows - -
    Linux - -
  Hypervisor platform Windows -
    Linux -
V6.5 for Virtual Server   Windows - -
    Linux -
V6.5 for Bare Metal/Dedicated Hypervisor
(Same for both “1 Socket” and “2 Socket”)
Bare metal (physical) server Windows - -
    Linux -
  Hypervisor platform Windows -
    Linux

Note

As mentioned above, in the case of V6.5, “Linux Key” is required for Linux. However, if you are using the Arcserve UDP console to manage multiple backup agents bundled together, you will need to register with the “Server Key”.
“Server Key” which is issued at the same time as “Linux Key” is strictly forbidden to use other than the above reasons.
Please use “Socket Key” when you would like to use the license for host OS (Windows server etc.) backup in case of using hyper-V etc. as the hypervisor platform.
