Overview

To install vCenter Server, it is necessary to obtain the ISO Image of VMware vCenter Installer and issue a license for VMware vCenter Server, in advance.

Preliminary Items Needed

Customers are required to have vSphere Client installed in their remote terminal ( vSphere Client is needed to control the operations on the ESXi servers except if customers have direct access to the ESXi console)
Customers are advised to refer to VMware’s vSphere Client and vSphere Web Client Software Requirements for further requirements for installation.
  • •Customers are advised to prepare a ECL2.0 network having access to Internet.

vCenter Server Implementation Work

Overview

This chapter describes two methods for implementing vCenter Server. Select one of the configurations to perform.

Characteristics of Configurations

  • All-in-one configuration

  1. This configuration is used for the startup environment. It can be used for a small virtual environment.

  2. This is the simplest configuration. All components are installed on one Windows Server.

  3. DB is composed of vPostgres.

  4. It consists of 1 VM with no scalability.

  • Separate DB configuration

  1. This configuration can be used for a large or scalable environment.

  2. In this method, DB is created as Microsoft SQL Server on a separate VM.

  3. Various backups and DB sizing can be performed easily by using the SQL Server functions.

  4. Configuring DB as a separate VM makes it possible to scale up/scale out the components in the future.
