The Purpose of This Document¶
- This solution guide is prepared for the customers who subscribe Service Provider’s Arcserve menu offered on the Enterprise Cloud2.0 (hereafter referred to as “ECL2.0”).
- In the document, the example procedures for the download and installation made with the Arcserve are introduced.
Precautions for Use¶
Before using this solution guide, please make sure on the followings:
- This solution guide provides an example of some configurations which Service Provider deployed. Please make sure that actual procedures and parameters required for your configuration may differ from this by depending on your environment.
- This solution guide mainly introduces operations specific to the construction of the configuration dealt with in this solution guide. Please refer to the Enterprise Cloud 2.0 Tutorial on how to operate general functions of Enterprise Cloud 2.0.
- Service Provider reserves that the right to alter or revise the descriptions in this document.
- The configuration introduced in this document is an example and it does not guarantee the performance itself. Please remind that it requires your own configuration which meets the requirements for capacity, availability and maintainability at your place.

2.1.2. About Arcserve¶
Arcserve® Unified Data Protection (hereafter referred to as “Arcserve”) is a software-based solution focusing on customer’s needs for system data protection; especially, for small- and middle-scale computing environment, that enable the customers to deploy in truly simple and cost-effective way.
From introducing to launching operations, the solution doesn’t require much time for configuration. In addition, it doesn’t require the customers to have special technical knowledge. Thus, any organizations, such as branches stretched over regions or small operation bases where backup operation managers are not reserved, can take benefits the most.
Arcserve is a product directly installed to the subject machine being protected.
In the configuration using shared folders, the software can be installed to any device those which the subject machine being protected can recognize as a shared folder of Windows. For example, embedded and removal disk and NAS server are acceptable as a backup destination.
If a configuration is created with one embedded disk or no backup capacity, it is more effective to use remote shared folders such as NAS server as a backup destination.
As the Arcserve’s controller GUI is web-based, customers can easily confirm its backup status by simply accessing to the protection target server wherever the Internet is available.
Install the Arcserve on the backup target server.
To install, access to the dedicated website and download the install file from the website to this server.
184.108.40.206. License key registration¶
After installation, register a license key, which will be provided to a customer, to the Arcserve.
At the Backup procedure made with Arcserve, the whole system images of the backup target server will be backed up. The Arcserve installed on the backup server will back up its own system images to the outside of the server (the storage on ECL2.0).
(Transferring the backup data.)
220.127.116.11. Restore media creation¶
When restoring system images to the target server, the Arcserve requires creating a restore media. The restore media created here will be used at restoring.
Restore the backup target server as a virtual server on ECL2.0.
To restore, it is necessary to write the backup subject data into a blank disk as a system. Then, boot the blank disk as a temporal disk of the restore server (this will be booted on the restore media created separately on the Arcserve.) This restore server will access to the storage which the backup data is saved (the storage on ECL2.0) via network and write the backup data on the blank disk as a system.
By creating the written disk as a virtual server (restore server) on ECL2.0, it becomes restored.
Please prepare the necessary environment and information that are listed below before starting your configuration.
18.104.22.168. Backup target server¶
This becomes the server where the Arcserve is installed. To download the installation file, the Internet accessible environment is required.
22.214.171.124. Backup destination storage on ECL2.0¶
Please prepare an IP communication-enabled storage disk which the backup data will be saved.
In this solution guide, the configuration example uses an embedded disk of the virtual server configured on ECL2.0 as a backup destination disk.
126.96.36.199. Arcserve license key¶
The license key sent to the customer when the subscription order is placed. This requires to be registered after installing.
188.8.131.52. ECL2.0 Virtual server and blank volume of the restore destination¶
The virtual server used as a restore destination.
184.108.40.206. Server on ECL2.0 for temporal use at restoring¶
This server will be used temporally and deleted after restoring.
As relevant drivers needs to be recognized when restore media and restore are made, we recommend customers to download necessary driver and tools and save them in the backup target server in advance.
