2.2. Download and Installation

2.2.1. Downloading Arcserve

To perform backup with the Arcserve, users are required to install the Arcserve on the backup target server. In this configuration guide, we provide an example that an OS installs the Arcserve on Windows Server 2012 R2. (Actual procedures may vary depending on each customer’s environment and version. Please be sure to use the configuration described in this document as an example.)

Download the “ASDownloader.exe” file from the link below, and save the installed file to your preferred storage.

Note

When installing via the installation package downloaded from the website, the package contents will be saved in the user’s local system.

Note

The language supported by this operating system is English. In case any other languages are detected, please specify the language to English when installing the product.

As an Administrator or user of the Administrators, login to the computer that Arcserve’s Agent will be installed. Open the folder downloaded from the Arcserve Website, and double-click on “ASDownloader.exe” so as to launch the setup wizard.
At the End User License Agreement dialogue box, check the conditions of the license agreement. Then, if agree, click [ Accept ].
The “Activate Arcserve UDP“ screen appears. Leave the blank and click “Skip Activation”.
Click [ Next ]
The installer wizard will boot. Click [ Next ]

Select and check “Arcserve Unified Data Protection”, and click [ Next ]

Specify the download destination, and click [ Download ]

Download will start as the picture below shows.

Confirm that the message “Download Complete” is shown on the screen. Click [ Next ].

2.2.2. Installing Arcserve

Select “Advanced Installation”, click the [ Next ] button.
Note: The installing procedures here are made with the setup wizard.
Note: The default settings are used for the installation here.
Note: With “Express Installation”, components are installed based on the default settings.
Note: With “Advanced installation”, each component will be installed separately. (In this configuration guide, the sample configuration applies this mode.)

The selected component’s name will appear. Then, click [ Install ].
Select a language. Click [ OK ].
At the License Agreement dialogue box, check the conditions of the license agreement. Then, if agree, check “I acccept the terms of the License Agreement” and click [ Next ].
The “Arcserve Product Activation” screen will be displayed. Leave the blank and click “Skip”.
Select “Arcserve Unified Data Protection – Agent”, and click [ Next ].
*In this example, installing the Arcserve UDP Agent only.

Specify or look up to the destination folder of the installation, and click [ Next ].

Select a protocol from either HTTPS or HTTP. In this example, HTTP is chosen.
The agent port number will be used when connecting to a web-based UI.
Default value: 8014.
Note:
Available port number for installing the Arcserve UDP Agent (Windows) is 1024 - 65535. Please make sure that the availability of the port number you specified. At the setting up, the Arcserve UDP Agent (Windows) cannot be installed with unavailable port numbers. With the port number registered here, you can operate the UDP Agent from remote browsers.
Enter the administrator’s user name and password, which will be used for backup. Then, click [ Next ].
Programs intending to be used are registered as exceptions of Windows firewall.
Click [ Next ].
When verification of the setup has been completed and the preparation for the installation is ready, the screen pictured below appears.
Click [ Install ].
The “Summery” screen is displayed. Click “Install”.
The installation starts.
Click [ Finish ]. By default, “Check for an update immedately” is checked.
If you check “Check for an update immedately”, it allows you to confirm the product’s update status and make it the latest.
Confirm that the Arcserve items are displayed on the OS application list as the picture below shows.
Note: The items displayed here will vary depending on the contents you selected at the timing of the installation.
Installation has been completed.
