Image Storage

Overview

Overview

Overview of Image Data Storage Menu is as follows:

1.Bring in and out: BYOL Private Images

It is possible for Customers to utilize Virtual Server and Baremetal Server through bringing in externally created Private Images.
By doing so, Customers who utilize on-premises environments and / or other Cloud platform environments can easily migrate their customized OS to this service and utilize.
Furthermore, although there is a partial restriction regulated, Customers can bring out their private Images which they have created in this service, and further create the duplicate of the Resources which Customers originally created in their platform environments and further utilize them.

2. Create Resource from Template

It is possible for Customers to create Resources from their BYOL Private Images uploaded on Image Storage.
Moreover, it is further possible for the Customers to re-create (duplicate essentially) these images by newly creating Instance and / or Volume from Virtual Server where the image was created.

3.Obtain Resource Image Files

Customers can easily create to obtain Image Files of Virtual Server’s Instance and / or Volume and such through creating Templates.

Note

In OpenStack Component, Image Storage corresponds to “Glance”.

Features of Menu

Image Storage Menu Features are as follows:

1.Create Resources in Independent Image

Customers can upload an independent image from external environment into the Image Storage to launch Virtual Server Instance and Baremetal Server from this independent image.
By such, Customers’ external resource replication is easily creatable in resource for this service; thus migration to this service is easily undertaken.

2. Share Images

By setting to share Images, Customers can publicize and share their own image stored within their own Tenant Image Storage. By doing so, Customers are able to share the independent images within the specific communities such as those in between Partner Corporate and End-User Corporate.

3. Back Up Simple Image

By obtaining Image Files of Virtual Server’s Instance and / or Volume,
Customers can store them in their Image Storage so that they can activate on simple Image Backup of Instance and / or Volume as of when they were obtained and restore them.
From the simple Image Backup Customers can further take duplicates of those images they have originally created in Instance and / or Volume. Replications of Instance(s) and Volume(s) will be easily created from this simple image.
Moreover, free-license Images can be either brought out of the service platform environment and stored externally through utilizing downloading function.

Private Template

Private Template is a service with which Customers can create an Image (in Template) of the Resource such as a Server and / or Storage and the status of such so that Customers can store it in Image Storage as “Private Image Template”. Furthermore, external image file is brought in (thus that equals imported) to store it as Private Image Template within Image Storage.
Customers can also create Server and Storage including the images of such Private Image Templates. Private Template corresponds to the following file format:

It enables sharing of image for the specified tenant by adding tenant in the same region (the tenant ID) to the image shared members.
Customers can set the selection for the tenant to which they have access rights on its own account, but customers will need the tenant ID in order to enter to tenant with no access authority.
Images can only be shared after the tenant on the receiving side approves of the sharing (“Approval to add image-sharing members” mentioned later) after adding the tenant to the image-sharing member with this function.
※When you share the image, it will be required operations on the share side tenant.

After the approval to add an image-sharing member is given, the tenant can find the private image template with the specified image ID in another tenant and create resources.
※When you share the image, it will be required operations on the shared side tenant.
*If the tenant on the sharing side removes a tenant on the receiving side from the image-sharing members, the tenant on the receiving side can no longer see or utilize the image, even if an approval had been given to add an image-sharing member.

(Supplemental) Detailed specifications of image copying (Common for Private Template/private ISO)

The image copying function saves copies of customers’ private images, which are stored in the image storage, in the image storage of other tenants within the same contract. By using this function, customers can distribute copies of customers’ private image templates to other tenants within the same contract or other regions. Please see below for the details of specifications.

  • It is also possible to copy the license with images such as Windows Server by the image copying function.
Although images with licenses cannot be exported to external environments, this function enables customers to distribute images with licenses within this service.
  • For image copies that were saved with the image copying function, image storage fee will be applied to the tenant, to which the images were copied, once the copies are saved.
  • If Instances, etc. are created from saved image copies by using the image copying function, fees for the Instances and OS will be those of the copy destination.
  • Official images cannot be copied.
  • The maximum size of file can be copied by Image Copy function is 300GB.
  • Even tenants of this contract can not be copied to tenants who do not have access authority.
  • The copying of the image involves time-consuming processing as it involves actual file transfer, and depending on the file size and region, there are cases that copying may take more than one day to complete. Estimated time for copying 1GB image from JP1 region to other region is as follows, but it is only reference information and it does not guarantee the required time, so please keep in mind beforehand.

Detailed specifications of license switch / BYOL function (private image)

Scope

Use the license switch / BYOL function to bring in a private image of Windows Server from this menu.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) can be brought in without using this function.

In addition, when bringing in a private image to the ECL 2.0 of Windows Server, the following three patterns are available for license usage.
(The function that realizes these license usage forms is called the license switch / BYOL function.)
  • BYOL(Bring Your Own License)
A method of using the image with customer license as it is on ECL 2.0
  • Provider Lisence continued use
A method of bring image on ECL2.0 with provider license customer used in Cloud service other than ECL2.0.
  • License Switch
A method of bring image with customers license to switch provider license on ECL2.0
