5.1. Colocation Inter-Connectivity (CIC)

5.1.1. Overview

5.1.1.1. Overview

Colocation Inter-Connectivity (called CIC hereafter) is a menu that connects between Logical Network (Data Plane) and Customers’ colocation rack located in designated Service Provider data centers in nearest areas.
CIC enables Customers to utilize both resources of Enterprise Cloud 2.0 and their colocation space in hybrid.

5.1.1.2. Features

CIC has following features:
  • Colocation Inter-Connectivity (called CIC hereafter) is a menu that connects between Logical Network (Data Plane) and Customers’ colocation rack located in designated Service Provider data centers in nearest areas in 1Gbps or 10Gbps bandwidth.

  • CIC provides layer 2 connectivity, which means two sites above are on the same network segment.

  • Customers can either add, delete the connectivity in between Logical Network and their colocation rack through Customer Portal / API. (Customers are required to submit the service order form for initial subscription of this menu.)

../../_images/cic_image.png

It should be noted that CIC has physical connection formed by cables, etc and logical connection formed by physical connection of VLAN. In this article is defined as below:

  • Physical connection, colocation_physical_link (the old parameter name: masterCIC / mCIC)

  • Logical connection, colocation_logical_link (the old parameter name: CIC)

Only physical connection can not communicate with a logical network and customer segment. Always, after you sign up for physical connection, please use the customer portal, etc to create a logical connection.

5.1.2. Available Functions

5.1.2.1. List of Functions

There are mainly two functions in CIC menu:

Customers can have logical connections with each and every individual Logical Network with VLAN.
  • Up to 24 VLANs are available per mCIC link.

  • The maximum number of available Logical Network is 64, but up to 24 Logical Networks are connectable with CIC.

  • As such, please keep in mind that each maximum number above is different.

One set (one link) consists of two redundant physical wires, which are wired to Customers’ colocation rack.
  • Customers are required to utilize the set of two physical wires at ACT/SBY, as well as to handle the redundancy protocols with their devices.

Customers need to configure redundant control with ACT/SBY for the failover, as well as for Layer 2 loop prevention.
    • In the case that Customers would like to operate the control flame for their redundancy control, they need to set the VLAN-ID from 3 to 4093, as well as the packet should be tagged.
Please check in advance whether Customers’ devices they bring in are available or not with this menu. The control frame will be transmitted through the devices of Service Provider for this service.
    • Service Provider has checked the connectivities with PVST+ and Rapid-PVST of Cisco Products. However, as this is only for the IOS [12.2(53)SE2] version, which means Service Provider does not guarantee all the IOS versions are able to connect.
Besides, STP (IEEE802.1d) is not available as the control frame of STP is untagged and will be discarderd as such.
Up to now the connection of CIC in Flex Link is confirmed. Please note that the operation is not guarantee in the future.
    • Layer 2 Broadcast, Layer 2 Multicast and Unkown Unicast will be discarded only when the values exceed to a certain level.

    • In the case of connecting with a remote location by CIC, there are possibilities of cutting one line during a construction on the roads, etc.
In order to avoid communications problems even if one line is cut, it’s recommended to use a redundancy protocol ACT/SBY.
Please note that the time and date of a construction are fixed and cannot be changed on request.
  • MAC Address, ARP Conditions

    • One IP address is available for one MAC address for Customers to utilize within their on-premises system connected with Colocation Inter-Connectivity menu.
