5.3.1. Service Menu Overview

  • The Amazon Web Services Inter-Connectivity service menu provides connectivity to AWS VPC using AWS Direct Connect.

  • Using AWS Direct Connect, you can establish a secure private connection between Amazon Web Services (hereafter, AWS) and other combined solutions.

The Amazon Web Services Inter-Connectivity service menu contains the following features and benefits.

  • Establish a steady connection by directly connecting to AWS VPC without going through the Internet.

  • Establish a physically redundant connectivity infrastructure.

  • Automated provisioning with SDN-utilized technology.

5.3.3. Description of Functions

5.3.3.1. AWS Gateway Function

The following functions are available for establishing connectivity with AWS.

  • Provides the interfaces for Logical Network connectivity and Amazon Web Services connectivity.

  • Customers are able to set the Bandwidth Settings for the AWS Gateway.

The AWS Gateway provides the following 2 types of Interfaces:

AWS Inter-Connectivity Interface

  • Provides the Interface for connectivities with AWS VPC.

  • This Interface is for 1 AWS Gateway only.

  • This Interface is created simultaneously while ordering Amazon Web Services Inter-Connectivity.

  • Customers are not able to perform operations (addition, IP Address configuration, deletion) on the Interface by themselves.

  • This Interface implements the use of the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) for redundancy.

Gateway Interface

  • Provides the Interface for connectivities with the Logical Network.

  • This Interface is for 1 AWS Gateway only.

  • Note: Customers are able to assign the Logical Network destination of this Interface, and detach the connection.

  • Only 1 Logical Network can connect with 1 AWS Gateway. Customers are not able to connect to multiple AWS Gateways.

  • This Interface implements the use of VRRP Protocol for redundancy.

Address Setting Function

The Gateway Interface provides the following Address Setting function.

The Virtual IP Address for VRRP.

Primary IPv4 Address

Primary IPv4 Address: The IP Address assigned to the Primary segment of the Gateway Interface of the redundant AWS Gateway.

Secondary IPv4 Address

The IP Address assigned to the Secondary segment of the Gateway Interface of the redundant AWS Gateway.

VRRP Group ID

The identifier of the specific VRRP group.

Note

  • Assign an IP address to the “AWS network 1” & ”AWS network 2” for both the Primary and Secondary segments, based on the specified /28 IP Address selected during ordering. Please note that this cannot be changed.

  • The following addresses are reserved by the provider and can not be used by the customer.
    • 100.127.0.0/26

Advertisement using BGP / Static Routing Function

Customers are able to set the Static Routes for the Logical Network from the AWS Gateway.
The maximum number of allowable Static Routes is 32.
There are no restrictions on the IP address set for the Static Route destination.
The BGP is able to advertise both the address of the Gateway Interface, and addresses of the Static Route destination to AWS.

Bandwidth setting function

Customers are able to set the Bandwidth within the limits of the AWS Gateway. The Bandwidth to be set should be based on the customer’s Bandwidth plan.

Addition / Removal of Gateway Interface

  • Customers are able to create a Gateway Interface and connect with any Logical Network. Customers can remove, and disconnect from the Gateway Interface.

  • Customers are able to select any IP Address whilst creating the Gateway Interface. As the Gateway Interface uses a redundant VRRP Protocol, the following addresses can be assigned.

Note

  • If there is an overlap of VRRPID on the same Logical network, communication may not be completed normally. Therefore, please specify a different value.

  • Customers are duly advised that the IP Address cannot be modified. Hence, if Customers would like to change / modify the IP Address, they are required to first remove and add a new connectivity for the Logical Network.

Static Routing Setting / Routing Advertisement

Customers are able to set the Static Routing from the AWS Gateway. Additionally, the Static Routing Settings are advertised using BGP to AWS.
Parameters for Static Routing Settings are as follows.

Note

  • (* 1) The Terms and Conditions for orders through the application form are as follows.

    • New connectivity applications or change requests for US1/UK1/SG1 with fixed price lists, will be charged the monthly fee beginning from month of application. The contractor will pay the fee of the corresponding month in cases where, the connectivity is cancelled or terminated within the same month in which service use began, or when the date of application is on the first day of the month.

    • Billing will start / apply from 0:00 (UTC) on the 1st of the following month after a new connectivity / change. Termination will be applied 0:00 (UTC) on the desired date of termination.

    • It is necessary for Customers to implement the new connectivity / changes on the Customer Portal / API.

    • On the ECL 2.0 Portal, it will temporarily appear as a VPN Connectivity contract. After the desired establishment date, it will be displayed as an AWS Inter-Connectivity agreement.

    • Self-Management Function can not be used. “Add / Delete Gateway Interface”, “Static Routing Setting / Routing Advertisement” etc will be handled in correspondence with new connectivity / changes.

  • (*2) Bandwidth Change is only available for Best Effort service plans. Bandwidth Changes for Guaranteed service plans are not applicable.


5.3.4.3. Order Flow

5.3.4.4. Important Things to Note when Ordering

The requirements for ordering Amazon Web Services Inter-Connectivity are as follows.

  • Customers must have completed their contract application beforehand, as key information (AWS Account ID) will be required.

  • It is possible to provide this service as multiple contracts per 1 tenant. The maximum number is 4 contracts per 1 tenant.

  • It is not possible to connect multiple AWS Gateways with the same Logical Network.

  • It is not possible to connect the AWS Gateway and the VPN Gateway to the same Logical Network.

Note

  • For each Amazon Web Services Inter-Connectivity contract, it is possible to apply for new connectivity, Bandwidth Change, and termination 1 time per day.

  • The reception hours for this Service Menu is 9: 30 - 17: 30 Japan Time on Weekdays.

5.3.5. Terms And Conditions

5.3.5.1. Usage Conditions with Other Service Menus

This service menu can be combined with all other service menus. Connections with the Logical Network is only possible with connectivities to the Data Plane.


5.3.6. Pricing

5.3.6.1. Initial Fee

There is no initial fee for this service.

5.3.6.2. Monthly Fees

This menu charges a Monthly usage fee. Monthly usage fee will be the Monthly billing maximum.

5.3.7. Quality of Service

5.3.7.1. Support Coverage

The functions described in this Service Description are subject to Support Services.
Upon ordering from this Service Menu, problems caused by incorrect settings by the Customer (eg. Static Routing Configuration etc.) are not supported.

5.3.7.2. Operation

The Quality of Operation for this Service Menu meets the Operation quality of the prescribed Service Standards.

5.3.7.3. SLA

The SLA for this Service Menu meets the SLA Standards defined by the services.

5.3.7.4. Points to Note

  • Transmissions to the AWS Gateway has a restricted flow limit in order to protect the service infrastructure.

  • For transmissions passing through the AWS Gateway, there will be no restrictions on the flow rate, whilst the speed and quality are subject to the Contract plan.

  • The maximum MTU size is 1,500 bytes.

  • Support is not available beyond the connectivity segment. Customers will not be notified of failures for segments provided directly to Customers by Amazon.

  • Both Guaranteed Bandwidth and Best Effort services are unable to connect to multiple VPCs. The number of desired VPC connections must correspond to the number of contracts for this option service.

  • BGP Connectivity cannot be established until approval of the Virtual Interface is complete. Hence, initial Connectivity tests such as Ping etc., will not be conducted.
