2.4.6. Creation of bootable media

Note:
As the method to restore the server which is to be restored, you can select to use Centralized management type for restoration by using management server or Local type for restoration by using bootable media.
But there is the known issues and limitations of function of mounting ISO image. In this case, you should use Centralized management type for restoration by using management server.

If restoration is executed because there are errors in the backup target server, the bootable media (ISO file) is required. There are following 2 ways to create the bootable media: (1) downloading the bootable media from the My Account site of Acronis and (2) creating the bootable media on the server where bootable media builder was installed. (If the bootable media builder cannot be used, download the bootable media builder from My Account site.)
We recommend creating the bootable media after installing Acronis or initial backup.
Once one bootable media is installed, the media can be used on any servers.
When creating the bootable media on the backup target server, it is possible to create the bootable media with customized IP address and the driver of the NIC and so on in the customer environment, so that the setting at the time of restoration becomes easy. It is necessary to create the necessary number of bootable media according to usage situation.
* We recommend keeping a record of vNIC information (NIC number, IP address, MAC address and so on) of the backup target server in advance.

2.4.6.1. Creating the bootable media from the server

If the ECL1.0 environment is connected to Internet, it is necessary to create the bootable media on Windows server and Linux server of the backup target server, respectively. (Procedure is similar.)
After creating the bootable media, the media needs to be copied on the terminal using ECL1.0 console.
The downloaded bootable media (ISO file) needs to be kept safe because it is required for restoration.
① Run the bootable media builder. Execute the following task on the backup target server where the bootable media builder was installed.
  * This screen does not appear on the server where the bootable media builder is not installed.

  <As for Windows server>
   Select “Run Bootable Media Builder” from the list of applications in [Start].

 <As for Linux server>
   Open the terminal and then run the following command.
$ /usr/sbin/mediabuilder

② When the bootable media builder screen appears, click [Next].

③ Select “Create the media without specifying a license key” and then click [Next].
* If creating a media that is only used for restoration, registration of license key is not required.

④ Select “Default (Linux-based media)” from “Bootable media type”, select “Notation method” and then click [Next].

* Default type of bootable media can be used even if the server to be restored is Windows server.
* If the server OS to be restored is Windows server, “Notation in Windows format” needs to be selected.
* If the server OS to be restored is Linux server, “Notation in Linux format” needs to be selected.

⑤ Click [Next].

* Network setting can be changed after booting with CD. If you would like to know about details, please refer to the user guidance prepared by Acronis.

⑧ Select “ISO image” and then click [Next].

⑨ Select the storage destination of ISO file, and then click [Next] after entering any file name.

* If bootable media is created on the server to be restored, IP address of the server is recorded on the bootable media so that the network does not need to be configured at the time of restoration.
⑪ Copy the created media (ISO file) on the terminal using ECL1.0 console.
* Bootable media (ISO file) needs to be kept safe because it is required for restoration.

2.4.6.2. Downloading from the My Account site

If the ECL1.0 environment is not connected to Internet, it is necessary to connect to the My Account site from the terminal using the ECL1.0 console and download the bootable media.
The downloaded bootable media (ISO file) needs to be kept safe because it is required for restoration.

① Log in to the My Account site from the terminal using ECL1.0 console.
Click the [Downloads] button.

② Click [Bootable Media ISO (for Windows and Linux)] on the displayed page and then download the bootable media.

③ Store the created media (ISO file) on the terminal used for operating ECL1.0 console.
