2.2.3. Backup patterns by using Acronis

Following patterns are available as configuration patterns of backup by using Acronis.
Select a backup pattern according to usage application of customer.
Configuration pattern Usage application
Local type
  • Simplify the configuration work. (Perform backup easily.)
  • Environment where the number of backup target servers is limited.
Centralized management type
  • Execute unified management of multiple backup target servers and operate these servers.
  • Execute the backup plan at multiple servers all at once.
  • Utilize various options of Acronis including the de-duplication function.
  • Environment where the number of servers will increase even though the number of servers is currently limited.

2.2.3.1. Local type

This is the minimum configuration task in which the backup target server is used after installing agent and management server.
As for the backup destination, it is necessary to configure the backup destination according to patterns of usage by customer while referring to “2.2 Usage patterns.”

We recommend the local type if the number of the backup target servers is limited.
Configuration task is easy because the backup target server is used after installing agent and management server.
When performing backup, backup is performed for each backup target server so that workload increases compared to that of the centralized management type.

2.2.3.2. Centralized management type

Centralized management is performed by preparing one unit of management server and installing only agent in the backup target server.
The storage node needs to be prepared to perform centralized management of backup data and use the de-duplication function.
As for backup destination, it is necessary to configure the backup destination according to patterns of usage by customer.

We recommend the centralized management type if the number of the backup target servers is limited.
Centralized management of backup work is available by preparing the management server so that workload is low compared to the local type.
* If performing the centralized management of the Linux server, it is necessary to enable SSH connection on the Linux server by using the root account.
It is possible to create a management target location where centralized management of backup destination is possible by preparing a storage node. * In addition, various optional functions including the de-duplication function are available.
* It is possible to reduce the number of servers by configuring the management server and storage node in the same server.
* License key is only required for the agent (backup target server).
License is not required for the management server and storage node.
